I enjoyed this book. I've read it at least twice now, once about 15 years ago, and my latest read-through very recently. The origin story of Raistlin Majere sheds light on a dark, but also very complicated character.I've never been interested in reading or read a book of the fantasy genre before, but I was pleasantly surprised. All characters were fleshed out extremely well; for example, I nearly cried when Raistlin and Caramon lost both their parents, I could understand Raistlin's jealously at Caramon stealing his dream girl. Raistlin's competitiveness with Caramon is the classic nerdy brother vs. attractive/jock brother conflict. Eccentric characters such as Flint the dwarf and Tas the kender made me
I have always loved dragonlance books. This one is a great prelude to chronicles and it was pretty good. I loved the end as well, great insight to raistlins test

Amazing. My favorite fantasy character of all time is Raistlin Majere and this book paves the road to understanding the man behind the magic. The motivation behind his actions and really showcases his unending perseverance, desire and thirst for power. Suhweet read.
Raistlin, such a deep and complex character. Reading how it all began brings me back to the first time I read Dragonlance Chronicles all those years ago.
I loved this book, to learn of how Raistlin becomes the mage he is and his relationship with his twin Caramon. Anyone that's a Dragonlance fan will enjoy this book. Anyone who is a fan of fantasy will enjoy this book. The characters are wonderful, and the adventure is fun to follow along with the companions.
Here is a good example of what would have happened if Harry Potter turned evil. This is a great book to read if you are sick of mamby pamsy wizards and want to read a good book about a sickly kid who turns into someone who is not a very nice person (as said by one of the Hobbit-like characters in a different book from this series). The only flaw is that while it is quite informative about the character of Raistlin Majere (the golden guy on the cover), we do not get to see him use much magic. I
