The armies of the Outlanders crushed the highlanders at the battle of Colden Moor–killing their finest warriors and breaking their freeborn spirit. The highlanders are now a conquered people, ruled by the brutal Baron Gottasson. Prophecies speak of the coming of a new leader, a descendent of Ironhand, mightiest of the highland kings. A leader who will throw off the Outlander yoke. But only one highlander carries the blood of Ironhand: Sigarni, a wild and willful teenage girl who cares for nothing save her own concerns. Until a fateful encounter thrusts her onto a path of rebellion. Now, hunted by the baron’s soldiers and stalked by an evil sorcerer, Sigarni will be forced to fulfill her destiny . . . or perish.Rating Of Books Ironhand's Daughter (The Hawk Queen #1)

Spoilers/Trigger WarningThis book has a gang-rape at the center of our character and plot development. And outside of that, just about every male in our story either wants to sleep with our main character, already has, or both. Literally every time a new male character gets introduced in the story, they have to either say or think that she is the most attractive woman they have ever seen, if they are not too coarse, and that they really want to bed her, if they are a bit more coarse. Our main4.5*. Excellent start to this dualogy! Sigarni is a great heroine, leading her people in rebellion. It is similar to Braveheart, with just the right amount of magic woven in.
Truly remarkable! Brutal but beautiful.

Buddy Read with the FBR Group. An action-packed page turner. Easy to read but brutal at times. Mr. Gemmell's writing is different. Short and to the point, with an economy of words that makes everything more real and natural and even quite brutal at times.I liked both the characters and the plot. Sigarni is wonderfully written. A strong proud woman with the mind of a whore and body to drive any man crazy. Circumstance or fate turn her into an ice cold battle queen, as beautiful and hard like a
3.5 stars
2.5 to 3 stars, it was okay, it has some good and bad points. It is well written but the beginning is too long and too slow, things only pick up around the half way point. Some good character development, maybe to much as sometimes that is what is causing the slowness of the story to progress. Some magic but never really explained and takes a back seat to characters and the story. The ending was okay for the most part, but again good and bad. I am on the fence if I would continue with this
This series unlike his other works failed to grip me unlike Waylander, Drenai and the early Rigante. It is a good read but I feel Gemmell's generated better work.
