Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension #1)
4.5/5 starsSimply enthralling and fun from cover to cover. This kind of book is why Im thankful for the SPFBO competition because without it I might have never heard about this book at all. Like Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft or The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French, Sufficiently Advanced Magic (SAM) by Andrew Rowe is truly a gem in the self-published fantasy world that is on par or even better than many traditionally published fantasy books. In fact, I think of SAM as the best book to ever
I read Sufficiently Advanced Magic for the Self Published Fantasy Blog Off. It was promoted to the finalist stage by Bookworm Blues and is the first novel in the Arcane Ascension series. It sits nicely within the LitRPG subgenre of Fantasy and it gripped me from the very start. In similar fashion to books such as The Magician's Guild, The Name of the Wind, and A Wizard of Earthsea - a large percentage of the narrative takes places within a mysterious educational establishment where professors

Immersive There were so many secrets and side plots, usually most writers cannot pull it off, however this was really well done. There was no pointless filler, which some authors use to pad their page count. Everything and everyone's contribution was significant.I also really enjoyed the fact that our Hero, wasn't an over powered Twink. He really worked hard and put in a lot of effort to better himself, which is something I feel more books could use. All in all really well done, beautifully
full review...I was quite entertained with Sufficiently Advanced Magic, and thought Andrew Rowe did a bang up job for his first real novel! The book is part of a unique genre of LitRPG books, that read almost like a video game. I guess a very close comparison of genre is Ready Player One, where pretty much almost all the action occurs in a game like environment. I was so enamored by 'RPO' that I decided to give this one a try. "Five years ago, Corin Cadences brother entered the Serpent Spire a
I've been going on a spree of LitRPG books lately and I have to admit I'm having a grand fun time with them all. Maybe it comes from my gamer background or perhaps I just love the whole gamut of rules associated with complicated and arcane magic systems, but I'm also pretty sure this transcends all that kind of musing. What I've found is a wonderful tale set mostly within a magic school closely associated with climbing these massively complicated dungeon towers spread throughout the land.
Surprise surprise, I will be controversial again. This book is bad. I'm about 2/3 in and it's just not worth this time I wasted on it already. Here we have our people who get magical powers from a goddess if they complete puzzles in a tower. Corin's brother went in, never came out, so... yeah. Corin wants to go in and find him. He goes in, gets entry level power, goes to magic uni to level up to go back in to find him. This thing is fucking LONG, man. Not even justified long, because it can be

Description During Books Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension #1)
Five years ago, Corin Cadence’s brother entered the Serpent Spire — a colossal tower with ever-shifting rooms, traps, and monsters. Those who survive the spire’s trials return home with an attunement: a mark granting the bearer magical powers. According to legend, those few who reach the top of the tower will be granted a boon by the spire’s goddess. He never returned. Now, it’s Corin’s turn. He’s headed to the top floor, on a mission to meet the goddess. If he can survive the trials, Corin will earn an attunement, but that won’t be sufficient to survive the dangers on the upper levels. For that, he’s going to need training, allies, and a lot of ingenuity. The journey won’t be easy, but Corin won’t stop until he gets his brother back.Define Out Of Books Sufficiently Advanced Magic (Arcane Ascension #1)

Full review is here on my blog! This one grabbed my attention right from the beginning. The story plops us right at the door to the tower, right as Corin Cadence, minor noble, magic user, and 10/10 little brother is about to enter it to be judged and more or less sorted into his specific magical attunement. Its going to be a tough test. There be monsters inside this tower and hes armed only with a backpack full of food and supplies. At least he was smart enough to bring some rope.
